Time Tactics for the Busy Youngpreneur
The Youngpreneur Society

Running your own business while juggling school, sports, social life can feel like you need extra hours in the day. Time can be your best mate or your biggest stress. The trick? Learning how to manage it.

Good time management isn’t about being busy 24/7. It’s about working smarter, not harder, so you’ve got space for both your goals and your life.

Here’s how to take back control of your schedule and make every minute count.

1. Know Where Your Time Actually Goes

First things first, track your time for a couple of days. What’s really eating it up? Scrolling socials? Switching between tasks? Running around last-minute?

It’s not about guilt. It’s about awareness. Once you know where your time is going, you can start to plan like a pro.

Try this: Use your phone’s screen time stats or a simple time tracker app. You might be surprised!

2. Get Clear on Your Priorities

Not everything is urgent. Not everything deserves your energy.

Each week, ask yourself:

  • What are my must-dos? (orders, deadlines, customer messages)
  • What are my growth goals? (new product ideas, marketing, networking)
  • What can wait… or be ditched altogether?

Hot tip: If it doesn’t get you closer to your goals or bring you joy — maybe it’s time to let it go.

3. Use the Power of Planning

You don’t need a fancy planner or colour-coded diary (though go for it if that’s your jam). What matters is consistency.

Try this easy system:

  • Sunday reset: Spend 15 minutes planning your week. List business tasks, school stuff, life admin.
  • Daily top 3: Pick your three most important tasks each day. Focus on getting those done first.
  • Time blocking: Set specific times for certain tasks, like replying to DMs or packing orders, so you don’t get pulled in every direction.

Pro move: Schedule breaks, fun stuff, and creative time too. Your brain needs fuel!

4. Say No (and Mean It)

You don’t have to do everything. Saying no to things that drain your energy gives you more time for the things that light you up.

Your time is valuable, protect it.

5. Progress Over Perfection

Some days will feel productive. Others, not so much. That’s okay! Time management is a skill, not a personality trait. The more you practise, the better you’ll get.

Time’s not your enemy; it’s your secret weapon. Use it wisely, and there’s no limit to what you can build.
